Sex, drugs &
synthesisers
Since materialising in late 2004, Deviant UK
has established itself as a bright star of the European Dark Alternative stage
and is widely acknowledged to be a leader of the resurgent UK scene. The band
unleashed debut album 'Barbed Wire Star' in October 2006, spawning the anthemic
club hits 'Raptured Saints' and 'Access Denied!'. Astonishingly, the album
continues to appear in the UK Alternative Chart two years after its original
release and recently sold out of it's third pressing.
Signed as flagship act of dynamic London-based independent label
RebCo Records with worldwide distribution, Deviant UK engage with a
unique sound is powerful, distinctive & instantly accessible, effortlessly
straddling the EBM, Industrial & Gothic genres.
This band is best
defined onstage, consolidating an ever-growing fanbase through a punishing tour
schedule both in the UK and across Europe including Wave Gotik Treffen, Infest,
Nocturnal Culture Night, Dark City festivals among others. The band has enjoyed
many memorable shows with names like Project Pitchfork, Combichrist, VNV
Nation, The Cruxshadows and Rotersand among others.
Quintessentially English & proud of it, Deviant UK is
masterminded by devilish singer/songwriter Jay Smith ("a true showman with an
ego the size of a planet" - Rocksound Magazine). This is electronic music with
a black heart, Smith's angst-ridden vocals coating every song in ice. Memorable
hooks betray an electronic pop science that stands Deviant UK head &
shoulders above their peers.
Avoiding the cliches associated with the
scene, a distinctive image and huge stage presence work hand-in-hand with the
music to tick all the boxes. Swathed in pure rock and roll attitude, Smith
engages audiences with an overwhelming confidence that is equal parts
arrogance, charisma & psychosis. This is a live act that loves every moment
of the rollercoaster ride they are strapped into
and the enthusiasm is
infectious.
Smith's lyrical stance is suitably dark;
everyone has a secret to hide, friends will always let you down & love
inevitably ends badly. Forget symbolism, B-Movie futurism or tired political
posturing:
Smith opts for a truly personal, first-person view into a
bacchanalian world of sin, excess & insecurity, framed by humour so black
that it can only come from having been there, seen it and done it.
The
recent collaborations with Imatem & Rotersand topped alternative charts
across Europe & most significantly, the second Deviant UK album
'Very Bad Things' is scheduled for release in 2009: bigger, harder and better.
